Do blipshift shirts usually run small or large?

I usually wear a large t shirt so is that what I should order?

They are well fitted after an initial shrink. If anything they are a bit tailored or slim fit, which I like in a shirt (the length is good). Don't order a medium.

it shrinks a bit so it's better to be on the safe side and go large

If you wear a large, they come slightly small. But mostly true to size.
